FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ's)
Q How far in advance should I contact McCollister's
to schedule a van?
To avoid stress and insure availability plan on contacting us at
least three weeks before you plan to start packing.
Q Can I get an estimate over the phone?
Yes. However, often times items are overlooked that may require
special handling equipment. Since a survey and consultation by a
trained relocation professional does not obligate you or cost you
anything, why not take advantage of this service to help you plan
your move?
Q Does McCollister's rent vans I can drive?
No. McCollister's fleet is dedicated to
the relocation industry and operated by licensed professionals.
Using the Do-It-Yourself Move option, McCollister's
will arrange to have a van brought to your home for you to load;
once the van is loaded we will transport your furnishings to your
new home and park the van for you to unload.
Q How much time do I have to load and unload?
Although more time is allocated the larger your shipment, you should
plan on one day to load and one day to unload.
Q Will the van be locked?
Yes. When the van is brought out to residence for you to load, you
will be provided basic instructions by the driver. Additionally,
you’ll be provided a lock (and key) which you’ll affix
to the door whenever your furnishings are unattended or when you’ve
completed loading.
Q What kind of truck will arrive?
All vans used in the DIYmove Service are air-ride trailers with
tie-downs. Depending on availability, the size of your shipment
and time of the year, sizes range from 20 to 50 foot trailers.
Q Who is responsible for parking permits?
In some residential communities, you must obtain permission to operate
or park a commercial vehicle. McCollister's
respects your property and will not park equipment in your driveway.
Parking permits can generally be obtained either at the local police
station or City Hall. You have the responsibility for securing required
permits in advance.
Q What about liability?
McCollister's is providing a commercial
method of self-moving. You accept responsibility for physical condition
of all your items and responsibility for any missing items. McCollister's
liability begins after you’ve notified us the van is loaded
and our driver arrives to move the trailer. Our liability ends once
the trailer is parked at your new residence for unloading. You should
check with your Homeowners Insurance company to identify risk coverage
options.
Q How should I pay for my move?
McCollister's accepts Mastercard,
Visa or Discover or you can pay by certified check or money order.
