SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
There are a number of self-service options to professional
home relocation services, all of which require in varying degrees
your personal time in trade for some cost savings opportunity.
Two prevalent options today are: one-way truck rental in which a
family on the move estimates, plans, buys materials, prepares the
home and contents, rents a size-appropriate truck, loads, drives
and unloads; the other is a hauling service with the only significant
difference being the service parks a truck in front of the home
for you to load. Instead of you driving, you meet the van at your
new home and unload.
In both cases, you’ll want to carefully evaluate what you’re
moving, how much packing material you’ll need, and what kinds
of van equipment is required to safely load and unload your possessions
– equipment like loading ramps, carton dolleys, appliance
dolleys and paper furniture pads.
Often overlooked is the amount of labor required to safely handle
your possessions on and off the truck as well as the availability
to contract additional help in a new locale.
